Pathologist Assistant

Overview A well-established, pathologist-owned pathology practice in Florida is seeking an ASCP Certified Pathologists' Assistant to join its team. The organization has been serving the local community for more than 50 years and is committed to excellence in patient care, client service, and employee satisfaction. This position will serve as a PA to a 772-bed acute care, not-for-profit hospital which serves a 16-county region in North Florida and South Georgia. This position will be based at a large regional acute-care, not-for-profit hospital serving multiple counties across North Florida and South Georgia. Education/Experience Requirements Bachelor\'s degree in a health or science-related field required. Certification as a Pathologists\' Assistant by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) required. Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists\' Assistant program preferred. Primary Duties And Responsibilities Under direct or indirect supervision of a pathologist, perform accessioning, dissection, histologic sampling, and gross examination of a full range of anatomical specimens following established protocols. Perform frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations within established procedural parameters. Clearly and accurately describe specimens and measurements using standardized dictation when appropriate. Verify specimen identity to prevent medical errors. Use appropriate specimen cassettes and initiate tissue processing as needed. Support special hospital procedures and research protocols, including cancer studies. Safely operate laboratory equipment, including imaging and specimen-processing systems. Train and mentor students and newly hired staff. Perform additional duties as assigned by pathology leadership or administration. Qualifications And Skills Ability to communicate clearly using dictation equipment. Ability to recognize various tissue types and biopsy specimens. Self-directed and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of and commitment to laboratory safety policies and procedures. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Flexibility to work occasional weekends, holidays, evenings, or nights as needed.
