They are responsible for patient transfers to and from the operating room, positioning patients on the operating table, preparing them for surgery, and assisting the physician during surgery. Some operating room technicians may manage the surgical supply inventory and place orders to ensure that surgeons have all the necessary tools and materials. CSTs can choose to specialize in particular case types and can select their clinical setting, as they are readily employable in acute care hospitals and outpatient surgery centers.
