Carpenter

Primary Function Perform general construction tasks involving physical labor at building, highway, bridge, and heavy construction projects. May operate hand and power tools of all types: saws, air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces, erect forms to support concrete, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris. Responsibilities Operate saws, hammers, drills, and other power tools as required. Position, join, align, and set stick-built or manufactured form systems. Shovel cement and other materials into portable cement mixers, and mix, pour, and spread concrete. Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials. Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes. Use all carpentry tools (tape measure, hammer, square, level, etc.) to stick-build formwork and falsework. Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures. Load, unload building materials, machinery, and tools. Work long, flexible hours as demanded by customers, including nights, weekends, and extended periods in all seasons. Perform necessary work while complying with all company policies and procedures. Perform additional duties as required or directed by supervisory or managerial staff. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Job Location Asheville/Fairview, NC Positions Available 3-4 Education High school diploma or GED is preferred, but not required. Minimum Requirements Must be a minimum of 18 years old. Work Experience Experience in constructing form-work for concrete construction. Ability to disseminate detailed instructions. Previous bridge construction experience is a plus. Other Reliable transportation to the job site. Job may require overnight travel. Willingness to work nights and/or weekends if needed. Good work ethic and attendance. Must not be frightened of heights or working near or over water. Physical Demands Heavy physical effort required including pulling and lifting or moving heavy weight material with frequent lifting or moving of materials or equipment (over 80 pounds). Physical Activity Position requires ability to continuously work around noise, dust, heat, cold, oil, and heavy equipment. Personal protective equipment is normally required. Ability to exchange ideas quickly and clearly and to receive and evaluate detailed information and instructions.
