Interim Financial Controller

A small, privately held retail / consumer products business is seeking a hands‑on Interim Controller to lead and stabilize the accounting function in a lean environment. This is a highly involved role that requires someone comfortable operating both strategically and in the details, with the ability to own the accounting process, improve structure, and provide reliable financial visibility to leadership. The Interim Controller will be responsible for overseeing the month‑end close, general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, AP/AR, cash activity, financial reporting, and inventory‑related accounting. This person will also assess current processes, identify gaps, and help create more discipline around reporting, controls, documentation, and day‑to‑day accounting workflows. The right fit will have experience in a small or founder‑led business, ideally within retail, consumer products, apparel, jewelry, wholesale, e‑commerce, or another inventory‑based environment. QuickBooks experience is strongly preferred, along with the ability to operate independently without a large accounting team or heavy infrastructure. Potential contract-to-hire range $115,000 - $125,000 Key Responsibilities Lead the accounting function for a small, privately held retail / consumer products business. Support inventory accounting, COGS, gross margin, and related reporting. Review current accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve structure and consistency.
