The job requires thorough execution of simple cleaning tasks which follow an established routine. The work is usually inspected in detail upon completion. Qualifications Certification/License High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Valid Driver's License Job Responsibilities Provides a safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean environment to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. Coordinates and supervises the activities of the custodial staff. Ensures that all activities conform to district guidelines. Communicates effectively with members of the school district and community. Reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned. Appropriately operates all equipment and machinery as required. Supports the value of an education. Supports the philosophy and mission of the school district. Supervises all custodial staff assigned to building. Operates and maintains boilers and major equipment. Cleans and maintains boiler rooms and mechanical rooms to comply with the OSHA safety requirements. Supervises and participates in general cleaning and maintenance of the school building. Removes snow and ice from the school grounds and sidewalks. Requisitions and receives supplies and equipment and maintains necessary inventories. Assumes responsibility for the general security of the building. Report back to the building as needed after normal shift hours as directed or as necessary for all alarm situations. Performs emergency repair or cleaning services when necessary. Supervises and assists with extensive summer and holiday cleaning and waxing programs. Supervises building lighting system and determines if it is operable and utilized properly. Unloads packages, stacks and moves copy paper, and miscellaneous delivery of packages. Assumes responsibility for the proper functioning of the heating system. Follows the policies set forth by the Board of Education when outside organizations are using school buildings, grounds, and facilities to be coordinated with the Director of Buildings and Grounds. Reports acts of vandalism to the Principal. Determines work schedules for custodians and coordinates work responsibilities with the Director of Buildings and Grounds. Consults with the Principal daily for special assignments and related matters. Evaluation of custodial staff. Periodical night inspections of the custodian crew. Assist with setup of special activities as directed. Perform the necessary heat checks of all buildings on the EPHS site. Communicate daily status and condition of the building to the Director of Buildings and Grounds. Equipment Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, including brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools. Safety Requirements Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties. Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks. Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets. Travel Requirements Travel within and outside of the district Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc. Experience with vigorous labor: lifting between 30 and 50 lbs, squatting, and moving heavy items.
