Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician Cox Fleet, headquartered in Indianapolis, is a leading provider of on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers. Duties Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment such as electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials. Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment such as aluminum, chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, lift gates, and brake chambers. Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling, engine electronics, and transmission systems. Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on trailer equipment and systems, including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. Inspect, test, and use diagnostic instruments (handheld computers, pressure gauges) to identify malfunctions. Road‑test vehicles to confirm proper operation. Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and make sound judgments. Manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconcilation of company‑issued service truck equipment. Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections. Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs and provide assistance. Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively. Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks. Document work according to company standards and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on repair orders via the TRAIT application. Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly. Work independently, managing a personal daily schedule. Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or near standard repair times. Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed. Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase orders, and discussion of repair order findings. Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. Requirements High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and 5 years experience). Possess a set of hand tools required for the job. Obtain ASE certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months of hire. Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical or submit a DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining. Be at least 21 years old. Hold a valid state driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File; 3‑year MVR review required. Safe driver experience required. Preferred ASE certifications: T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical/Electronics), T7 (HVAC), 608/609.* Skills & Abilities Understand implications of new information for problem‑solving and decision‑making. Compensation The hourly base rate is in the range of $26.73 – $40.10 per hour. The exact amount depends on location, experience, and performance.
