Temporary Administrative Coordinator

The Cornell Prison Education Program is seeking a reliable, organized, and detail-oriented Temporary Administrative Coordinator to support our team during a temporary staffing need. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys administrative work, can work well with and across different departments, and can manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The work you will be doing provides a critical office need and is necessary to extend higher education opportunities to incarcerated students seeking to improve their circumstances. This temporary, part-time, hybrid opportunity is expected to last approximately 4 months with the possibility of extension based on business needs. The position will average approximately 30 hours/week but could be more based on the needs of the department. The successful applicant will be required to work at least 3 days per week in the office on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, NY. The mission of the Cornell Prison Education Program (CPEP) is to provide high quality higher education in New York State prisons; to help CPEP students build meaningful lives inside prison as well as prepare for successful re-entry into civic life; and to inform thought and action on social justice issues among past and present CPEP students, volunteers, and the wider public. Starting in the summer of 2026, CPEP will begin the transition from the role of administering the associate’s degree program on behalf of Cayuga Community College to the administration of our own Cornell University bachelor’s program which will launch at Cayuga Correctional Facility in the fall of 2027. This will mark the first time that an ivy league university has offered a bachelor’s degree to incarcerated people reinforcing once again Cornell University’s ethos of “any person, any study”. Key Responsibilities: As needed, forward email alerts from the program's student tracking tool as directed, and support related communications, meetings, etc. around students tracking and research. Manage system for tracking incarcerated student attendance, following up with instructors and volunteers to timely report data. Complete monthly statistics based on student and volunteer attendance in college activity to NY-DOCCS. Coordinate with community college partner to complete pre-semester reports to NY-DOCCS based on student enrollments, make updates to document throughout the semester. Act as terminal registrar to incarcerated students, communicating changes in enrollment to the Cornell School of Continuing Education via a shared enrollment tracking document. Order, pack, and deliver books and course supplies to the prisons. Fulfill official transcript requests for current and former students and alumni Prepare mailings and enrollment materials for incarcerated students Order and maintain office supplies. Support staff with general administrative tasks as assigned. This position requires: High School Diploma, plus up to 2 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality. Positive attitude and dependable work ethic. Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing. Preferred qualifications include: Previous administrative or office experience. Experience with Concur, E-Shop, Kuali Financial System (KFS). Interest in the criminal justice system.
