Job Title: Research Assistant 1 Location: Miami, FL Job Status: Full time Employee, Staff CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Set up and operate various scientific apparatus and perform minor repairs. Prepare correspondence and answer phones. Formulate and maintain bibliographies; complete applications and forms. Order laboratory supplies and maintain culture media reagents. Review and edit materials for publication; prepare publication schedules. Maintain appropriate logs, records, and study notebooks. Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures, safeguard University assets. CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred). Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience. Skills / Attitudes: Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University’s core values. Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment. DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM – Dr. Shah’s Laboratory Dr. Shah’s laboratory investigates mechanisms of viral oncogenesis and novel viral-based therapeutics for cancer, focusing on the cancer virome, glioma immunology, and novel drug targets. The Research Assistant will assist the PI with: Purchasing cell-lines, preparing cell cultures, and running experiments with varying time-frames. Submitting documentation to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) for animal experiment approval. Handling animals and assisting with preparations for animal surgeries. Taking documentation, measurements, data entry, and simple analysis of experiments. Assisting the PI in summarizing data for presentations and papers. Department Specific Qualifications Education: High School, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience or equivalent educational experience. Skills / Attitudes: Strong interest in the medical field. Ability to work independently and on a team. Ability to handle animals (e.g., mice) and perform animal sacrifice according to IACUC procedures. Willingness to work long hours or on weekends for certain experiments.
