Electro-Mechanical Reliability Technician, Corrugated Packaging

Location: Reading, PA (Direct Hire, non-union) — 2 openings

Shift: 3rd shift, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM (work week begins Sunday night); 5–10 hours of weekly overtime likely

Compensation: $28.03 – $42.29 per hour, based on experience, plus shift differential ; daily overtime at 1.5x for hours over 8 and weekly overtime at 1.5x for hours over 40; weekend and holiday premiums

It’s 11:03 PM in PCA’s full-line corrugated “super plant” in Reading, and production is already humming. You pull up the line status, check in with operators, and head straight to a folder-gluer that tripped. A quick look at the HMI, a meter on a 24V control circuit, and you’ve traced the fault to an I/O module. You go online with the PLC from the plant workstation to follow the logic and confirm. With parts in hand and the team looped in, the machine is back up—and the line keeps running.

By 2:00 AM, you’re rotating to preventive tasks: inspecting conveyors, servicing bearings and gearboxes, and tightening up a VFD cabinet. When a call comes on a case packer, you triage priorities, solve the immediate issue, and document the root cause so the crew can plan a permanent fix.

• Troubleshoot and repair high-speed corrugated converting equipment in a fast-paced setting
• Work across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Diagnose electrical issues from 0–24V control through 110–240V single-phase and 480V three-phase circuits
• Work with servos, VFDs, relays, I/O modules, sensors, and associated wiring
• Read and interpret electrical and mechanical prints/schematics to chase faults
• Go online with PLCs via the site workstation to trace logic; communicate findings to the OEM (programming performed by OEM)
• Troubleshoot AB and Siemens HMIs and controls
• Rebuild mechanical components; service conveyors, bearings, shafts/seals, and gearboxes
• Execute reactive, planned, proactive, and predictive maintenance to push reliability forward

• 3+ years in industrial maintenance with strong electrical troubleshooting chops
• Comfortable with meters and safe work around 480V three-phase
• Fluent in reading prints and schematics
• Experience connecting with PLC software (e.g., RSLogix) to follow logic
• Hands-on mechanical ability: conveyors, bearings, shafts/seals, gearboxes, and rebuilds
• Familiarity with corrugated systems and basic hydraulics/pneumatics
• Working knowledge of GMP
• Bring your own metric/standard hand tools (specialty tools provided)
• Willing to work 3rd shift, every other weekend, and overtime as needed

• Intermediate to advanced mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic skills
• Beyond-basic motor work, transformer and cabinet troubleshooting, or experience above 480V
• PLC programming exposure or robot experience
• MIG, stick, or arc welding
• Positive displacement, air diaphragm, or centrifugal pump experience
• Background in packaging or pulp & paper
• Boiler familiarity; site provides training and handles internal testing/licensing

• Clear advancement—techs have progressed from entry tier to top tier in ~3 years
• Structured onboarding: safety/orientation, training book, access to LOTO logs, and an assigned trainer
• Train on days before moving to nights—typically 3–6 months; some training schedules run 30–90 days
• 90-day plan with weekly check-ins so you always know where you stand
