Position Overview The Coordinator of Interpretive Services ensures effective communication with deaf, deafblind, and hard‑of‑hearing faculty, staff, and visitors to Towson University. As a certified American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, the Coordinator will serve as an on‑campus interpreter (voice to sign and sign to voice) on an as‑needed basis during regular business hours, with occasional evening and weekend events. The Coordinator will consult with Deaf faculty/staff on necessary interpretive or support services and work with vendors to fulfill interpreting, transcription, and captioning requests, coordinating with various campus departments such as the Deaf Studies department/College of Liberal Arts, Office of Inclusion & Institutional Equity, and Admissions. Responsibilities and Duties Provide direct interpreting services (voice to sign and sign to voice) for faculty, staff, and visitors, including ASL interpretation in classrooms, workshops, departmental meetings, telephone calls, on‑campus and off‑campus events, and other required activities. Coordinate with vendors to schedule and facilitate communication services—interpreting, transcription, and captioning—for faculty, staff, and visitors at campus events. Manage vendor contracts and invoices, and track the university interpreting services budget. Arrange other communication‑related requests, such as assistive learning devices (ALDs). Facilitate effective communication between deaf faculty and program coordinators, directors, chairpersons, and university offices, creating systems with consultation from deaf faculty to assure communication access needs. Coordinate with deaf faculty on research collaborations and student advising sessions. Collect and report faculty and staff assessment data on interpreting services and adjust service provision as appropriate. Pursue professional development through workshops, meetings, networking with peers, and reading current literature in the field, maintaining professional membership, certification, and ethical practices. Work Hours and Telework May include occasional evenings and weekends. Telework may be available up to two days per week following completion of 90 days of service in good standing. Qualifications and Skills Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree Five years of interpreting experience RID, NAD IV, and above or BEI certification in good standing Adherence to RID’s Code of Professional Conduct Excellent ASL to English and English to ASL interpreting skills Ability to render the message faithfully and accurately with the appropriate register Ability to work effectively with a team interpreter and the Deaf Studies faculty Preferred Qualifications Experience interpreting in higher education settings Experience working with Deaf professionals Salary and Benefits Targeted hiring range is $80,000 - $90,000.
