Associate Director, CSL- African American Institute About the Opportunity Job Summary Culture and Spiritual Life (CSL) is a collective of six resource centers that support student learning, leadership, belonging, wellbeing, retention and successful graduation at Northeastern University. Through culturally grounded programs, services, and spaces, CSL Centers help all student learners understand identity, engage difference, and develop the capacities needed to lead and participate in various communities. Each center contributes a distinct cultural, spiritual, or identity-based lens while operating within a shared curricular framework focused on personal growth, community and belonging, wellbeing, and leadership. Together, CSL centers function as integrated environments that prepare students to thrive at Northeastern and beyond. Affiliated with the John D. O'Bryant African American Institute and reporting to its Director, the Associate Director fosters greater awareness, knowledge and skills around identities, cultural literacies, and belonging both in a U.S. as well as global context. Working in collaboration with university stakeholders and community partners, the Associate Director leads the creation, development, implementation, budgetary coordination, and assessment of programs and services directly related to the holistic health, wellness, sense of belonging, and student experience of all Northeastern learners, with an emphasis on those prioritized by the Center. The Associate Director serves as the primary point of contact with University partners on issues of student care and resourcing. In this capacity, they may also lead comprehensive, multi‑channel outreach and education efforts in support of core Center initiatives and may act as a subject‑matter expert for the university community on topics related to the Center's mission. They are the Center representatives on unit, divisional, and pan‑university collaborative initiatives, as needed. The Associate Director works collaboratively with the Director to ideate, manage, and execute signature Center programs, outreach efforts and core services, including budgetary management and operational planning. The Associate Director develops culturally sustaining systems, educational resources, and quality assurance practices that empower learners as peer mentors, advocates, and leaders in support of the University's African diasporic community. The Associate Director plays a leading role in the assessment, evaluation and evidence‑based curriculum development of the Center's programs and services to meet the needs of a varied learning communities on the main Boston campus as well as contribute to presence and engagement across the growing global network. In addition to these programmatic responsibilities, the Associate Director will supervise full‑time professional staff, advise student organizations and affinity groups, and supervise and mentor the Center's student staff (including co‑ops/interns). This position requires frequent nights and weekends to ensure the success of programs and services. Qualifications Master's degree in a related field with at least 3‑5 years of experience working with marginalized populations or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Demonstrated knowledge of issues and concerns relevant to the communities across the African diaspora and youth or young adults is required. Knowledge of social justice issues and leading learning practices, curriculum development, evidence‑based programming related to cultural issues and experiences, marginalized student identity development, and/or histories and advocacy is required. Specific experience in providing direct services to students in an urban, multicultural, and global environment preferred. Working knowledge of Business Administration and Africana Studies highly desirable.
