Registered Nurse - Critical Care

This position is for a critical care registered nurse in an intensive care unit focusing on neurology. The facility is a Level III trauma center and is Magnet designated. The unit has 27 beds with an average daily census of 25 patients. Patient types commonly treated in this unit include neurological patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, seizures, spinal surgeries, and brain mass resections. This unit is equipped to handle all significant neuro-intensive care patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on patient acuity. Support staff includes certified nursing assistants and critical care nurse practitioners. There is 24/7 intensivist and hospitalist coverage. Respiratory therapy and phlebotomy services are also available around the clock. Equipment used includes electronic medical records (EPIC) and various monitoring devices. Floating to other departments may be required, including emergency holding and medical-surgical units. Weekend rotations and holiday expectations are part of the schedule. Teamwork and evidence-based practice are emphasized within the unit culture. Staff members cannot work more than 60 hours in one week or more than 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts.
