Accounting Technician

Carver County is looking for an Accounting Technician to join our Health & Human Services team! Under minimal supervision of the Accounting Supervisor, the Accounting Technician performs varied accounting functions to include accounts payable and receivable, collections, insurance billing, account analysis and monthly/quarterly financial reporting. Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customer inquiries regarding Health & Human Services fiscal activities. Upon successful completion of the probationary period, this position is eligible for partial remote work.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities

Performs a variety of accounting activities associated with the billing, receipting, payment processing, collections and reporting services provided by Carver County Health and Human Services. Follows procedures to safeguard and maintain customer information. Researches, summarizes and informs internal and external customers of pertinent information regarding payment and billing activities. Performs collection activities to recover outstanding receivables owed to Carver County Health and Human Services for services provided. Submits medical billing to Minnesota Health Care Plans, private providers and third-party providers. This includes obtaining authorizations and follow-up on all denials or partially paid claims. Provides back-up, support and/or assistance functions within the unit as assigned. Performs other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. A minimum of two years previous accounting or related clerical/administrative experience. or AAS Degree/Certificate in Accounting

Scored Examination Process

All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, and background investigation.
