Who You Are

• You have a passion for working with the autism population and ensuring the safety and well‑being of students and staff.

• You have strong verbal and written communication skills, specifically involving documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and other related administrative tasks.
• You are experienced with medical assessment and ability to assess and respond quickly in emergent situations.

• You have the ability to multitask and make sound and appropriate decisions under pressure, where situations/circumstances are continually evolving.

Job Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively, learn new skills quickly, and build strong relationships with students, peers, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Collaborate across departments and with the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to support students’ holistic physical and emotional health.
• Monitor student wellness, performs routine and as needed medical assessments, and provides crisis response and first aid, including coordination with EMS.
• Manage a medical caseload by coordinating with guardians, primary and specialist providers, pharmacies, nutritionists, and food services.
• Schedule medical, dental, vision, and lab appointments; tracks vitals; administers medications; and conducts body mark checks at admission, discharge, and after significant incidents.
• Transport students in a company vehicle to appointments as needed is required.
• Provide health education to students directly and through Direct Support Professionals to promote healthy lifestyle habits.
• Work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team including psychiatric, clinical, educational, and direct care staff to ensure comprehensive care.
• Demonstrates cultural competence, professionalism, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse individuals and communities.
• Able to work flexibly and adapt.

Position Requirements

• Current NYS Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in good professional standing, required
• Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN working with children/adolescents, required
• Ability to Complete Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools (TCIS) in its entirety, required
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or higher, preferred.
• Training in psychiatric nursing or experience in psychiatric care, preferred.
• Experience working with youth with autism and/or psychiatric illness, preferred.
• Experience working with children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or co‑occurring conditions.
• Valid driver’s license with the ability to pass a DMV driving abstract screening is required.
• Experience working in a therapeutic or residential school setting.
• Experience with crisis management and first‑aid.
• Ability to communicate in a second language (Spanish, etc.), preferred.
• Due to the nature of work in supporting our students, all job description list the physical requirements for that position
• Our campus consists of some paved areas but primarily consists of grass, gravel paths and parking lots. Additionally, many areas of our building are fully accessible, however, as a historic building some areas are only accessible by stairs.
• You must be able to ambulate around the campus, including hills, stairs, grass and gravel.
• Student Facing Positions:
  • Must be able to react and move quickly during student crisis, both for the safety of the student and for the staff.
  • Must be able to run across the campus and throughout the school to catch/monitor an eloping student, and/or to remove yourself from an unsafe situation.
  • You must be able to pass TCIS (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Training for Schools).
  • You must be able to bend, stretch, sit, stand, crouch or kneel for sustained periods of time if implementing a hold.
