Purpose of the Position
The City of Wausau is looking for an experienced fleet professional ready to take the next step into a key leadership role. As Fleet Supervisor , you'll help lead the day-to-day operations that keep the City's diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment safe, reliable, and ready to serve our community. Working alongside the Fleet Manager, you'll coordinate and prioritize maintenance and repairs, provide guidance and direction to skilled technicians, work with City departments and outside vendors, and help plan for the future of the City's fleet. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who brings strong mechanical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to keep people and priorities moving in the right direction. Starting annual salary $63,980.80 or higher depending on related qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Physical and Working Environment Work is performed in both office and fleet maintenance shop environments, with occasional work outdoors and limited travel within the City of Wausau. The position requires a combination of sedentary and moderately physical activity, including extended periods at a computer or workstation as well as standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects. Work may also require the use or operation of vehicles, equipment, hand tools, power tools, and other shop equipment. Close mental and visual attention is required when reviewing technical information, inspecting equipment, diagnosing or evaluating repair needs, and performing administrative responsibilities. While working in or around the fleet maintenance shop, the employee may be exposed to noise, dirt, temperature fluctuations, outdoor weather conditions, fumes or air contaminants, chemicals, moving equipment, mechanical and electrical hazards, heights, and confined or restricted work areas. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required based on the work being performed and the environment. Additional Information

- Work directly with the Fleet Manager to schedule staffing for multiple work shifts; plans, coordinates, assign and review work of technicians.
- Coordinate and schedule the diagnosis and correction of equipment maintenance problems; prioritizes repair requests; establishes work priorities and assigns technicians to work tasks.
- Oversee technicians in diagnosing problems and repair methods; inspects equipment for necessary repairs or replacement parts.
- Ensure compliance with established safety policies and procedures; identify and establish procedures to mitigate work environment safety hazards.
- Determine work repairs to be completed by outside vendors; establish schedule for outside repairs.
- Schedule and recommend major repairs and inspect work completed by outside vendors / contractors.
- Coordinate and schedule work with other city departments and employees.
- Assist with preparing equipment replacement schedules and specifications for new equipment.
- Assist with the motor pool budget preparation and tracking.
- Check on availability of parts and coordinate with parts personnel on acquisition of parts.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices used in the maintenance and repair of municipal equipment.
- Communicate with other senior staff about work assignments and schedules.
- Serve on the risk management team.
- Report for duty in emergency situations.
- Perform various duties and projects as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent, and
- Four (4) or more years of progressive experience with equipment maintenance and repair operations, and
- Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's license (CDL) Class A with N Endorsement issued by the State of Wisconsin OR ability to obtain a Class A CDL without restrictions on air brakes within 9 months of hire. New employees failing to meet this CDL requirement may be terminated. (See Additional Information section below on CDL Training and Repayment Commitment Policy)
- Associate's degree or vocational/technical training certification related to Heavy Equipment or Automotive Mechanics
- Supervisory experience
- Fleet related certifications (ASE, EVT, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of automotive, medium/heavy truck, heavy equipment, and related municipal fleet equipment, including diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance practices, preventive maintenance programs, repair procedures, welding and fabrication, and the proper use of hand, power, diagnostic, and shop equipment.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, assign, coordinate, and review the work of fleet maintenance personnel while balancing scheduled maintenance, repair needs, available staffing, and operational priorities. Ability to follow directions and complete work and establish priorities.
- Ability to provide effective first-line supervision, including training and directing employees, providing performance feedback, addressing workplace concerns, and applying organizational policies and procedures consistently.
- Ability to evaluate equipment problems, repair needs, and available information; exercise sound independent judgment; and determine appropriate courses of action.
- Ability to establish priorities and make timely decisions when responding to competing repair requests, equipment failures, emergency needs, and changing operational demands.
- Ability to identify workplace hazards, promote safe work practices, and ensure compliance with established safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical information including equipment manuals, specifications, work orders, maintenance records, diagnostic information, regulations, blueprints, and operating and maintenance manuals.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and utilize computer-based systems and software, including basic proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with employees, supervisors, other City departments, vendors, manufacturers, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to coordinate work effectively with other City departments, outside vendors, and contractors and to monitor the quality and completion of contracted repair work.

CDL Training and Repayment Commitment Policy
- The City of Wausau will directly cover the full cost of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training program, including tuition, materials, and testing, as provided by an accredited training institution.
- The City of Wausau will make arrangements for the Employee's enrollment in the CDL training program and ensure that all necessary payments are made directly to the training institution.
- As a condition of receiving this benefit, Employee agrees to comply with the following terms and conditions:
- I agree to participate in the CDL training program, adhere to the program's requirements, and diligently complete all necessary coursework, training, and examinations.
- I will take and successfully pass the Theory Training Assessment with a minimum 80% and participate in Behind-the-wheel Training to demonstrate proficiency sufficient to pass the State administered CDL skills test.
- I will successfully pass the State administered CDL skills test and obtain a Class A CDL or Class B CDL with no restrictions.
- The City of Wausau will compensate regular wages for the class and test time. Any study time spent outside of class will not be compensable.
- Further, Employee agrees to remain actively employed with the City of Wausau for a period of thirty-six (36) months following the date of receipt of the certification.
- Should Employee fail to obtain the Class A CDL or Class B CDL, voluntarily terminate employment with The City of Wausau prior to the thirty-six (36) month date referenced in item E above or be discharged for cause prior to the thirty-six (36) month date referenced in item E above, Employee agrees and promises to repay the cost of the course noted in item A above. Costs will be prorated at 100% from 0 to 1 year, 75% from 1 to 2 years, and 50% from 2 to 3 years.
- The Employee agrees that the reimbursement amount shall be deducted from their final paycheck, if applicable, or paid in full by the Employee to the Employer via a mutually agreed-upon method of payment.
- Repayment should be made as a lump sum or in up to eighteen (18) monthly payments starting the month following my last day of work. Repayment will be made directly to the City of Wausau.
