About the Role

The Company is seeking a General Counsel to join its senior leadership team. The successful candidate will serve as the chief legal advisor and head of the legal department, with a focus on strategic advising, risk management, compliance, and ethics. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the organization and its member companies operate in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations, while also providing guidance on a wide range of legal and policy issues. The General Counsel will be responsible for contract management, litigation, crisis management, and corporate governance, and will lead a team of in-house legal professionals. Applicants must have a JD and a minimum of 10 years' of experience in insurance and/or financial operations, with a preference for those with experience in alternative insurance. A current bar membership in California is required. The role demands excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage relationships with external agencies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the insurance business and the nonprofit sector, and be adept at influencing and motivating others. Responsibilities also include supervising and training legal staff, managing budgets, and providing training on legal issues. A proactive management style, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to professional growth are essential.
