Construction Trades Supervisor

Position Overview Maintenance/Construction Technician IV (S), NC Department of Adult Correction, Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM). Reports to the General Construction Manager. Full‑time, Monday‑Thursday 7:00‑5:30PM with occasional work on Fridays, weekends, and overnight travel. Responsibilities Perform supervisory or highly skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work on buildings, equipment, plumbing, heating/cooling, and electrical systems. Carry out work according to maintenance schedules and work orders received from authorized personnel. Use initiative and judgment in applying technical trade skills to complex maintenance or construction problems; determine scope of repair or replacement work. Supervise journeyman‑level employees in trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, painting, and other trades. Perform independent, highly technical tasks at or above the journeyman level. Ensure construction, renovation, and major maintenance installations are completed within scope, budget, and schedule, complying with project drawings, specifications, and NC Building Codes. Qualifications & Experience High school or GED diploma and two (2) years of experience performing a full range of journeyman‑level tasks in two or more complex mechanical or building trades. Demonstrated experience in one or more journeyman‑level construction trades (concrete, masonry, carpentry, site work, painting, finishes, equipment operation). Experience with tools, methods, materials, and equipment used in new construction, renovation, and major maintenance projects. Ability to read construction specifications, blueprints, and understand local building codes. Strong decision‑making, team collaboration, and communication skills. Current certification may be required (EPA Type I, II, III or Universal Technician) as mandated by Title40, Part82, SubpartF. Salary & Benefits Salary range: $43,738–$76,542 (NC11). State‑owned vehicle for business use. Full‑time position (40hrs/week) with state benefits, retirement, health insurance, vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays.
