Recreation Specialist (PT)

Position Summary The purpose of this position is to provide outstanding customer service to recreation center patrons, assist recreation division staff, supervise and monitor the recreation center building and grounds, and assist with supervising main desk staff, including providing ongoing training and assistance for all assignments associated with the main desk. Essential Job Functions Perform administrative and clerical duties including answering phones; printing, faxing, and copying documents; preparing reports and letters; preparing and maintaining financial aid participant records; filing; front desk reception functions; and maintaining displays and information in kiosks. Provide staff and program support including preparing notices, distributing rosters and attendance sheets, preparing flyers, setting up and operating equipment, checking out and maintaining equipment and games, operating A/V equipment, and supporting youth and teen programs along with special events. Perform cash handling and accounting procedures including preparing daily deposits, printing transaction reports after every shift, performing daily opening and closing accounting procedures, balancing cash drawers, printing receipts, printing daily accounting summary records, securing money, and receiving and processing payment transactions; oversee the office supply budget and order office supplies for the facility. Perform facility maintenance and basic janitorial duties including preparing maintenance work orders, cleaning tables, chairs, desks, benches, and counters; picking up trash in and around the facility; sanitizing rooms and equipment; and maintaining restrooms. Monitor facility and patrons including responding to incidents and emergencies, conducting facility and grounds checks, enforcing facility policies and procedures, overseeing room activities, opening/closing the facility, assisting with rentals of the Community Recreation Center, confirming room set‑up and take‑down, and overall customer satisfaction; submit facility and IT work orders; act as manager on duty as needed. Provide excellent customer service including registering participants for programs and classes, assisting with membership enrollment, responding to inquiries about facility and programs, conducting facility tours, greeting all patrons, and selling City merchandise. Education and Experience Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test, and a motor vehicle review. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to provide advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies; consider different points of view to reach agreement; persuade to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas. Ability to perform the duty assignment after receiving general instructions; exercise discretion when choosing among a few, easily identifiable choices; have assignments reviewed upon completion. Use standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment. Intermediate reading ability of academic and professional materials, including ability to deal with systems of real numbers, practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, and measurement. Intermediate writing ability to produce reports, business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar using all parts of speech. Special Requirements Mobility within a field environment; must have a negative drug test; able to work a flexible schedule to include early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Licenses and Certificates Valid driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain it while employed; CPR/First Aid/AED certifications required. Work Environment Work performed in clean surroundings; requires little physical effort with light, easy to handle materials (up to 20 lbs.) and occasional lifting of objects weighing 50 lbs. Walking, standing, and reaching are part of the physical demands of this position.
