Public Safety Officer (Non-Commissioned, Non-Peace Officer Position)

Job TitleThe officer supports the Department of Public Safety's (DPS) mission to provide students, employees, and guests of the university with a safe and secure environment in which to study, work, and enjoy programs offered by the university.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the Director of University DPS.Provide safety and security services based on proven Christian integrity and ethics consistent with the University Mission StatementProvide general customer serviceProvide general support and emergency response servicesComplete daily shift log reportsMaintain constant contact with others via cellular telephone and/or radioIssue university parking violation warnings and citationsGuard university and personal property against damage, fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry by performing the following duties: Routine patrol of buildings and grounds of the university on foot or in patrol vehiclesExamine doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secureWarn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and report to the Chief / Director of University DPS and/or local law enforcement agencies, persons engaging in suspicious or criminal actsInspect equipment and machinery to determine if tampering has occurredWatch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes or other building safety hazards, and security doors left unlockedObserve individuals to guard against theft of university propertySound alarm or call the police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or illegal activitiesAllow authorized persons to enter the propertyRecord data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staffRespond to calls for service. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situationsComputer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of and be able to use Microsoft Outlook email software, Microsoft Word, and commonly used Internet browsersLicense - As a condition of employment, the employee maintains a current Texas driver's license and be at least 21 years of age to drive any vehicle, including personal vehicles, on behalf of the universityWork Schedule Requirements – Part-Time Public Safety Officers are assigned a variable work schedule. This schedule may be altered to meet the needs of the department. Alterations may be made to accommodate special University events, emergencies, and/or staff member sick leave, vacation, holiday leave, and emergency leave.Physical Demands - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
