Position Overview The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire two Site Technician 2's at Eldon Hazlet State Recreation Area for The Office of Land Management. This position make improvements to various buildings onsite; clean restrooms, maintain grounds, operate and maintain vehicles and heavy equipment, participate in Controlled Pheasant Season, oversee hunter check stations, mow grass, plow snow and maintain wildlife habitat plots; and will at times provides on-the-job training to new employees and volunteers. Eldon Hazlet SRA is one of the largest campgrounds in the Illinois state park system to be located on the largest manmade lake in Illinois. It attracts more than 800,000 visitors annually to camp, boat, fish, hunt, picnic, birdwatch, and hike more than 9 miles of trails. We welcome all interested persons to apply today. Essential Functions Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled work and travels in the maintenance and operation of Eldon Hazlet State Park. Participates in the maintenance to all site structures. Assists in site grounds maintenance. Participates in the Controlled Pheasant Season. On an intermittent or seasonal basis provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees, volunteers, or other staff. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years of maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or operation of heavy equipment and machinery. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing. Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions. Two (2) years of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations. Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification. The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.
