Registered Nurse - Oncology Radiation (TEMPORARY)

Position Summary At Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, our Registered Nurses are critical members of the team who diagnose and treat responses to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing methods and techniques such as case finding, health teaching and counseling. Incumbents provide care supporting to and restorative of health and well‑being, while adhering to a medical regimen. Responsibilities Administration of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy & Blood Products. Must be willing to cross‑train in Infusion and Oncology and physical practice. Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort to relate and integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan for patients. Develop a written individualized care plan which includes teaching needs and discharge planning. Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed. Administer medication. Practice infection control and participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients. Communicates changes in patient’s condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician. Develops and maintains current written plan of care for assigned patients. Sets priorities to meet the patient’s needs. Sets patient goals and priorities with the patient and/or family. Provides document evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses and understanding of the teaching. Ensures that patient education and instructions are consistent with that of the physician or designee. Communicates and works effectively with other staff and other departments. Participates in unit or hospital‑based quality assurance activities or committees to contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession at SBSH. Required Experience and Qualifications Must have a minimum of 1‑year of chemotherapy administration experience. Maintain the ability to practice in the State of New York. Failure to meet this legal requirement may impact your employment status. Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State. BLS Certificate Required by American Heart Association. Minimum of one year cancer care required. ONS Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy certification required or must be obtained within 3 months. Preferred Experience and Qualifications 3+ years of Oncology experience preferred. ONCC Certificate preferred. Cerner/Power Chart EMR preferred. BSN preferred. Employment Details As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs. Anticipated Pay Range The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
