Job Description
Job Title: RN II - Step Down Unit
Profession: Registered Nurse

Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Night Shift
Hours per Shift: 12 hours
Experience: 6 months of cardiac step-down or telemetry experience in the last 2 years preferred
License: Current RN license in state of practice required
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), NIHSS certification required within 6 months of hire


Must-Have:
- Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent required
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
- Successful completion of Basic Dysrhythmia Course preferred
- Completion of Critical Care Course preferred


Description:
Responsible for the planning and provision of nursing care to patients in the step down unit.
Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life-threatening emergencies in populations served.
Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel commensurate with their scope of practice.
Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations.
Is competent in all routine nursing skills including medication administration, intravenous therapy, care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains, and safe use of medical equipment used in the critical care setting.
Understands and follows chain of command.
Verifies alarm settings according to policy.
Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application and is able to make recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills in the care and management of patients post coronary intervention and post permanent pacemaker placement.
Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing cardiac step-down and telemetry patients.
Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the healthcare team.
Documents education provided to patients and/or families using appropriate teaching methods.
Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice.
Evaluates effectiveness of care performed and completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided.
Performs necessary unit specific safety and quality control checks.
Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care and unit operation.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Adherence to safety and wellbeing standards is required.
All associates must receive required vaccinations as a condition of employment.
