The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (Central Valley Water Board) has an opening for a Senior Engineering Geologist (Supervisory) to manage the Site Cleanup Program and Underground Storage Tank Program at its Redding office. The individual coming into this position will use geologic knowledge and technical expertise to manage cleanup projects and help restore water quality and ensure protection of human health. The position is located at 364 Knollcrest Drive, Suite 205, Redding, CA 96002, overlooking the beautiful Sacramento River. Working Conditions


Positions at the Water Boards may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position and might be expected to comply with Executive Order (EO) 22-25 after July 1, 2026.

In accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and GC 14200, the successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Proof of residency may be required.

Salary Information - CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience. E mployees appointed to the Attorney or Water Resource Control Engineer classification will receive Recruitment Higher Above Minimum (HAM) rate in accordance with the approved Civil Service Pay Scales.

In addition, note: Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. • Common groundwater, soil, soil gas, and indoor air investigation and remediation techniques for cleanup of chlorinated solvents, petroleum, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), metals, and other pollutants in groundwater, soil, and soil gas.
• Regional water quality issues, basin plans, water quality goals, and the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board Environmental Screening Levels.
• Groundwater fate and transport modeling.
• Reviewing and writing technical reports.
• Presenting and communicating technical concepts to the public and other groups.
• Strong oral and written communication, critical thinking, and organization skills.
• Leading and working as part of a team.
