Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 11 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years Med/Tele RN experience preferred License: Required RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: General Med/Tele skillset including stroke experience Cardiac rhythm interpretation Tracheostomy care PIV starts Chest tube management NGT placement Drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, foley insertion/management) PCA pump management Medication drip management including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids Description: This position is for an RN specializing in MedSurg/Tele. The unit specializes in head and neck and gastrointestinal surgeries. Common procedures include tracheostomies, laryngectomies, hernia repairs, colorectal surgeries, cholecystectomies, appendectomies, and ostomy takedowns. Patient types and diagnoses may include those requiring medical overflow. The patient ratios are typically RN: 1:4-6, but can increase to 1:7-8 during surge staffing. Support within the department includes a charge nurse, receptionists, resource nurses, and respiratory therapy available 24/7. Nurses will read monitoring equipment and respond as needed, as there is no monitoring technician present. Technology used in the unit includes an electronic medical record system and specific medical dispensing equipment. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend, with no call for travelers. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Scrub color is navy.
