Hospice Administrator
$111.8k - $207.98kBileddo Associates
Hospice Administrator Leading Faith-Based, Not-for-Profit Health System Home Health & Hospice Division Greater Orlando, Florida Full-Time, Exempt Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. On-Site, with rotating administrative on-call COMPENSATION: $111,800 - $207,979 annually Plus performance incentive eligibility, merit progression, and a full benefits package beginning day one You did not go into hospice to defend a margin target. But somewhere between the audit responses, the census pressure, the vacancy reports and the third reorganization in two years, the work stopped feeling like the work. Fifty-six percent of leaders reported burnout last year, and nearly half of healthcare executives say they are considering walking away - not because they stopped caring about the mission, but because they stopped being given the room to serve it. This role gives you the room back - full P&L and operational authority over a Central Florida hospice program, inside a not-for-profit system whose owners are a mission, not a fund. THE OPPORTUNITY Our client - a Glassdoor "Best Places to Work" honoree and Becker's "Top Places to Work in Healthcare" recipient, and one of the largest faith-based not-for-profit health systems in the United States - is seeking a Hospice Administrator to lead its hospice business across three Central Florida counties. You will own the strategic plan, the budget, the regulatory posture and the leadership team for a program embedded inside a fully integrated delivery network: acute care, medical group, home health and hospice under one mission and one medical record. Referrals come from within the system's own hospitals, physician practices and post-acute network, not from a cold-call sales motion. You will report to division leadership with a direct line to system executives, and you will sit at the table where the decisions are actually made. This is an operating executive role with real authority - not a compliance figurehead position managing someone else's spreadsheet. WHY THIS ROLE IS DIFFERENT
• Genuine Autonomy - You own the strategy, the budget, the policies and the team. You are hired to run the business - to set direction, make the call, and be accountable for the result - not to route every decision through a distant corporate approval chain.
• Mission Over Margin - Not-for-profit hospices reinvest what for-profit operators extract: research on the sector found aggregate net margins of roughly 19% at for-profit hospices versus under 4% at not-for-profits, with for-profits nearly three times as likely to score well below the national family-experience benchmark. Here, the surplus goes back into staffing, bereavement services and community care.
• A Real Interdisciplinary Team - Sector data shows not-for-profit hospices deliver roughly 10% more nursing visits, 35% more social work visits and twice the therapy visits of for-profit peers. You will lead a properly resourced IDT - nursing, aides, social work, chaplaincy, bereavement and volunteers - and a system that funds it.
• Collaboration, Not Isolation - You are part of a division leadership group and a system-wide post-acute network, with peer administrators, shared clinical governance, legal, compliance, HR, finance and marketing support behind you. The regulatory and audit burden that flattens standalone agency leaders is carried by an infrastructure built for it.
• A Schedule Built for a Human Being - Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a rotating administrative on-call shared across leadership and only rare after-hours escalation. Executive-level scope without the pager that never stops.
• An Employer That Invests in You - Day-one medical, dental, vision and life coverage, employer-funded retirement contributions, tuition assistance through the system's own university, four weeks of paid parental leave, and whole-person wellness and mental health support - the same investment in leaders that this organization asks leaders to make in their teams. WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Develop and execute the strategic plan for the hospice program across a three-county Central Florida service area, translating system goals into operating results.
• Own financial performance end to end - budget development, cost containment, productivity, payer mix and margin - and report metrics and operational efficiency to division and system leadership.
• Safeguard regulatory and accreditation standing, ensuring compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation, state licensure and survey readiness, and building the documentation discipline that keeps clinicians out of audit churn.
• Build and lead the leadership team - hiring, developing, coaching and evaluating managers and supervisors, and setting the culture that keeps clinical staff from becoming a turnover statistic.
• Develop and enforce operating policy, aligning local practice with corporate standards while preserving what makes the program work on the ground.
• Drive growth and market expansion - identifying referral opportunities, deepening relationships across the system's hospitals and physician network, and improving timeliness of hospice access for patients who are referred too late.
• Represent the organization in the community - with referral partners, civic groups, families and regulators - as the public face of the program. WHO YOU ARE Required
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or a related field.
• Ten or more years of healthcare management experience.
• Minimum of five years in a supervisory or people-leadership capacity.
• Demonstrated command of budget preparation, fiscal management and cost containment.
• Working knowledge of advanced business and not-for-profit management practice, including advanced supervisory practice and structured interviewing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard business/internet applications. Preferred
• Master's degree (MHA, MBA, MSN or related).
• Direct hospice, palliative care or home health leadership experience.
• Multi-site or multi-county post-acute operating experience.
• Familiarity with hospice EMR platforms and CAHPS/HIS quality reporting.
• Track record of building interdisciplinary teams and reducing clinical staff turnover. YOUR TOTAL REWARDS Compensation
• Posted range of $111,800 - $207,979 annually, positioned by experience and scope; annual merit progression and performance incentive eligibility. Health & Wellness
• Medical, dental, vision and life insurance effective day one - no waiting period - with multiple plan options, pharmacy coverage and 100% coverage for preventive care.
• Mental health support through a dedicated behavioral health partner, an Employee Assistance Program, and whole-person wellness programming built around body, mind and spirit. Financial Security
• Employer-funded retirement plan with annual employer contributions plus tenure-weighted matching on employee deferrals.
• Short- and long-term disability, AD&D, and tax-advantaged spending accounts. Growth & Development
• Tuition assistance and degree pathways through the system's own accredited university, plus leadership development, mentoring and internal mobility across nine states. Work-Life Balance
• Paid time off accruing from day one, four weeks of paid parental leave, family support resources, employee discount programs and pet benefits. THE LOCATION Greater Orlando offers something increasingly rare: a genuine metropolitan market on a livable cost base. Florida has no state income tax, which meaningfully changes what this compensation range means in take-home terms, and housing remains well below coastal-metro pricing. The immediate area is built around the Wekiva River basin and a chain of lakes - paddling, trails and springs within minutes of the office - with top-rated public schools, an international airport, both coasts within roughly an hour, and the cultural and entertainment density of a city that hosts the world. It is a market people move to and stay in.
