Occupational Therapist (OT) - Inpatient

Acute Care Rehabilitation Occupational Therapist (Part Time) Department: AMC Sheboygan County – Acute Care Rehabilitation. Status: Part time. Hours per week: 0. Schedule: Weekend rotation and casually during the week. Pay Range: $38.20 – $57.30. Responsibilities Interpret physician referrals and evaluate patients’ physical, perceptual, cognitive, social, and vocational abilities and their impact on daily activities. Establish and implement individualized care plans based on functional goals and evaluation results. Provide or fabricate assistive devices and splints to enhance functional independence. Monitor outcomes, adjust treatment plans, and update physicians and teammates accordingly. Identify and address factors affecting patients’ physical and psychosocial comfort. Plan and complete patient discharge, including written home programs, patient/family teaching, referrals to community services, and ordering equipment as appropriate. Communicate and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve optimal patient care. Complete required documentation (evaluations, progress notes, conference reports, discharge summaries) in accordance with department policy and accreditation standards. Record patient care and progress, and complete daily statistics, billing, and scheduling. Apply insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits. Maintain department productivity standards and adhere to billing and documentation policies. Clean up after treatment, store equipment, and keep the area orderly. Perform manual techniques including positioning, transferring, and transporting while using proper procedure. Demonstrate skill with modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices; understand indications and contraindications. Promote patient safety through participation in safety initiatives and adherence to infection control measures. Engage in performance‑improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes. Manage assigned caseload, inform leadership of coverage needs, and assist with coverage based on departmental and regional requirements. Pursue professional growth via continuing education, in‑services, and professional literature. Orient new staff and provide feedback during the evaluation of co‑workers. Supervise occupational therapy assistants, extenders, and, if qualified after one year, occupational therapy students. Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school or equivalent educational requirements per graduation date. Certification/License: Licensed Occupational Therapist in the state of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers obtained within 90 days unless exempted. Experience: No prior experience required. Knowledge/Skills: Intermediate computer skills; excellent communication, interpersonal, organization, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills. Must complete all competency assessments and meet site standards; maintain annual educational requirements for hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF). Must demonstrate knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and assess age‑specific patient needs. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, and squat throughout the workday; lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, 10 lbs. from waist to overhead, 40 lbs. at waist height over a reasonable distance, and push/pull with 30 lbs. of force. Perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Engage in repetitive hand use: simple grasping 5–15 lbs. (20% of the workday), pushing/pulling up to 75–100 lbs. (10% of the day), fine manipulation during massage and joint mobilization. Maintain functional use of senses for effective communication. Exposure to electrical and chemical hazards, blood and body fluids; wear protective clothing as needed. May require travel, exposing to road and weather hazards.
