\nThe duties of an Anesthesiologist include the care of a patient during the perioperative period. An anesthesiologist also serves as a subject matter expert for the facility in airway management, anesthetic/sedation drug management, and pain management. VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is an intermediate complexity facility with a diverse inpatient and outpatient population.\n
\n
\n- Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation for patients of all ages in the perioperative or periprocedural period\n
\n- Serve as an expert in airway management including specialized techniques such as fiberoptic bronchoscopy, video laryngoscopy, and one lung ventilation\n
\n- Document and review patients' histories\n
\n- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests\n
\n- Use specialized equipment including, but not limited to specialized monitoring devices, laryngoscopes, bronchoscopes, ventilators, and ultrasounds\n
\n- Evaluate for and perform anesthetics including monitored anesthesia care, general anesthesia, and/or regional anesthesia as is appropriate for the patient\n
\n- Placement of invasive monitoring as is appropriate for the patient\n
\n- Provide acute and chronic pain management\n
\n- Prescribe and administering treatments in all aspects of the specialty\n
\n- Provide consultations or referring patients to specialists\n
\n- Conduct and supervise direct patient care\n
\n- Explain the risks, dangers, and expectations to patients\n
\n- Consultations and follow-up in both the outpatient and inpatient areas\n
\n- Quality testing and referral for maintenance of equipment\n
\n- Plan and execute disease prevention and health promotion\n
\n- Exercise command of medical and surgical care as provided by law and regulations\n
\n- Conduct medical research whenever appropriate, and participate in education and training of related personnel\n
\n- Participate in on-call schedule in a responsive and timely manner\n
\n- Collaborate and participate in multi-disciplinary care\n
\n- Maintain the Medical Records as required by the Health Records Policy\n
\n- Timely response to clinical emergencies\n
\n
ADMINISTRATIVE \n
\n
\n- Participate in all meetings and other initiatives of the respective Section, Service, and the Hospital\n
\n- Participate in quality assurance projects/patient safety initiatives in the department and facility\n
\n- Provide daily guidance on operating room scheduling and flow\n
\n- Maintain CME and licensure as required by the licensing Board(s)\n
\n- Teach Residents and Fellows\n
\n- Enhance departmental and organizational reputation\n
\n- Maintain confidentiality of all health information and records according to Federal guidelines and regulation
