A well-established regional defense firm is seeking a North Carolina licensed attorney to join its workers' compensation practice in a 100% remote capacity. The role offers meaningful litigation responsibility, independent case ownership, and the flexibility of a remote practice within a collaborative regional firm with opportunity for growth into a leadership role for the right candidate.

The Compensation

• $80-125K Base Compensation Range Commensurate with Experience
• Eligible for Monthly Bonus Based on Hours Billed & Annual Bonus Based on Amount Collected

The Location

• Role is 100% Remote, Direct Hire & Full Time (Part Time Considered for the Right Candidate)
• Candidate Should Reside in NC or Proximate Surrounding Areas (e.g. Rock Hill, Fort Mill, SC)

The Role

• Manage and defend an active caseload of North Carolina workers' compensation matters for employers, insurers, third-party administrators, self-insured entities, and other clients.
• Develop case strategy with experienced attorneys and provide practical recommendations to clients.
• Handle all phases of litigation, including discovery, investigations, motion practice, hearings, mediations, depositions, and case preparation.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, legal correspondence, settlement documents, and filings with administrative agencies and courts.
• Conduct legal research and analyze claims, medical records, compensability, exposure, and related issues.
• Communicate with clients, claims professionals, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders regarding case status, risk, strategy, and next steps.
• Maintain accurate case records, reporting, billing, and litigation deadlines while pursuing timely, cost-effective resolutions when appropriate.

The Background Profile

• Active member in good standing with the North Carolina Bar required
• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
• 2-4+ years of legal practice experience required
• Workers' compensation experience preferred; defense-side experience is a strong plus
• Willing and able to work remotely within the state of North Carolina; very limited travel required
• Ability to meet the firm's hourly billing requirements (~40 hours/week)

• Highly responsive and communicative; slow communication is the leading cause of lost clients with adjusters
• Ability to operate independently, manage an active caseload, and consistently meet hourly billing requirements and litigation deadlines in a fully remote environment
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, negotiation, advocacy, organization, and client-service skills
• Practical, collaborative, responsive, detail-oriented, and dependable with sound judgment and a strong sense of ownership
