Fall 2026 Liberty and National Security Undergraduate Internship

The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that aims to improve democracy and justice in the United States. The internship is based in our Washington, D.C. office and provides in‑person research, administrative, and clerical support to staff throughout the organization, including the Liberty and National Security (LNS) Program. Responsibilities Conduct research on program issues such as surveillance, religious and racial profiling, counter‑terrorism initiatives, and presidential emergency powers. Copy‑edit and cite‑check research papers, blogs, op‑eds, and other materials. Assist with scheduling, mailing publications, and maintaining contact lists. Perform general administrative and clerical tasks, including filing, photocopying, shipping, mailing, coordinating meetings, setting up meeting space, and assisting with travel arrangements and expense reports. Attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations related to program work. Support the Brennan Center with additional research, clerical work, and front‑desk tasks as needed. Qualifications Independent self‑starter who is detail‑oriented, energetic, punctual, and highly organized. Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, and a passion for the issues addressed by the Center. Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word. Experience with research databases such as JSTOR, ProQuest, Congressional, or Document Cloud is very helpful. Open to evolving responsibilities within the internship. Undergraduate students only for Fall2026. Hours & Pay Approximately 10 – 20 hours per week; $18.40 per hour; September – December2026. Application Deadline July242026.
