Medical Records ClerkSamaritan Daytop Village provides life-changing services in mental health, addiction recovery, housing, and more to help individuals and families across New York rebuild their lives. We serve over 33,000 clients annually at more than 60 locations throughout the five boroughs, as well as Suffolk, Rockland, Sullivan, Westchester, and Ulster Counties.The Medical Records Clerk ensures all records are maintained securely in compliance with HIPAA and privacy standards, processes internal and external record requests, and provides administrative support to the Quality Assurance department.ResponsibilitiesResponds to requests for patient records, both within the facility and by external sources, retrieving them and transmitting them appropriately.Gathers documents and information from paper sources and/or electronic health records.Ensures medical records and/or billing claims are assembled in standard order and are accurate and complete.Safeguard confidential patient data and maintain compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and 42 C.F.R Part 2 standardsReview and process requests for patient records from patients, insurance companies, health care providers, OASAS, the Justice Center, and other external entities.Review Medical Record Requests to ensure that the Consent for Release of Information (ROI) is filled out completely, signed and dated by the client.Prior to releasing a record, the Medical Records Clerk will review medical records for missing information and coordinate with program staff to resolve any discrepancies, as appropriateLiaise with program staff to ensure release of records is not therapeutically contraindicated, as appropriateMaintain medical record tracker and ensure all medical requests and released information is filed appropriatelyLiaise with Legal Department as necessitated by requestProvide ad-hoc administrative support and assistance for the Quality Assurance and Compliance departmentQualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalentMinimum of one year of experience in a medical or clinical settingStrong attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughnessWorking knowledge of medical terminologyTechnical proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and standard office equipmentFamiliarity with HIPAA and medical privacy regulationsAbility to work independently, manage tasks efficiently, and handle requests in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication, collaboration, adaptability, and emotional intelligence for managing sensitive dataAdditional InformationThis is a full-time non-exempt role with an hourly rate of $27.82 (annualized at 35 hours per work to $50,634) with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 days of paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, tuition reimbursement, and access to daily pay.This is a hybrid role with an expectation of working 3 days a week in our Briarwood, Queens office with a schedule of Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.
