Accountant - Accountant, Oil and Gas

Accountant Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Accountant to lead month-end close, accrual accounting, and financial reporting for our finance team. This role will ensure accurate general ledger maintenance, support audits and compliance, and provide technical accounting expertise particularly for oil and gas operations. The Accountant will partner with operations and finance leadership to deliver timely, GAAP-compliant financial information and drive improvements in accounting processes. Key Responsibilities Lead month-end and year-end close activities, including preparing and posting complex journal entries and accruals Own reconciliations of general ledger accounts and resolve account variances promptly Prepare and analyze financial statements, account schedules, and supporting documentation for internal and external stakeholders Support external and internal audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to auditor requests Apply accrual accounting principles to recognize expenses and revenues appropriately and ensure GAAP compliance Manage oil and gas specific accounting tasks such as joint interest billing (JIB), production revenue accounting, royalty and working interest calculations, and lease/asset accounting Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business planning Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and process efficiencies to mitigate risk and improve accuracy Partner with cross-functional teams to support capital project accounting, cost tracking, and cost allocations Coach and mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting treatment and best practices Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong background in accrual accounting and general ledger management Prior experience in the oil and gas industry or related energy sector accounting preferred Demonstrated expertise in preparing financial statements, account reconciliations, and supporting audit requests Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and advanced Excel skills; experience with industry systems (e.g., production accounting or JIB software) a plus Strong knowledge of US GAAP and experience with SOX/internal control frameworks Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work independently as well as in a team environment Benefits 2 weeks PTO 6 Sick days 1 Floating, 10 Holidays 3% 401k Matched #J-18808-Ljbffr CyberCoders
