Overview The Electrician I/II/III is responsible for skilled technical work in the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and testing of electrical components and equipment in City facilities. The role requires a Journeyman Electrical license (Electrician II) or Master Electrical license (Electrician III) issued by the State of Colorado or a reciprocal state. The position is safety‑sensitive and requires overtime, weekend duty, and on‑call availability with a response time of 60 minutes within City limits. Compensation Electrician I: $74,942.40 – $95,929.60 Electrician II: $80,537.60 – $103,126.40 Electrician III: $86,569.60 – $110,801.60 Multilingual Stipend Program Employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English may qualify for a bi‑weekly stipend based on proficiency level. Essential Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks Responsible for day‑to‑day operations and supervision of maintenance staff as needed: Read and interpret electrical plans and specifications; coordinate with contractors. Prepare and maintain records and reports. Maintain electrical, mechanical, and other equipment in municipal buildings. Operate small tools and perform semi‑skilled to skilled tasks. Maintain a computerized maintenance management system and related maintenance files, spare‑parts inventory, and manpower forecasting. Requisition parts and materials for repairs. Work with outside contractors for specialized repairs, modifications, and workload management. Perform installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of electronics on control systems and electrical circuits; remove and overhaul pumps, motors, and compressors; conduct general electrical work; perform monthly elevator inspections; operate fire alarm control panels; operate emergency generators; operate security camera, burglar alarm, and access‑control systems. Implement all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and chemical handling. Assist the Facilities Management Supervisor with monitoring outside contracts to ensure compliance with federal, state, and city regulations: Assist in preparing bid documents. Monitor contractor repairs. Make decisions on field inspections. Review and approve contractor invoices. Consult on unusual or difficult cases. Interpret ordinances, codes, and regulations for contractors. Investigate and respond to requests and complaints. Coordinate activities with other departments to meet compliance. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and provide customer service in interactions with the public and City employees. Perform work safely, including operating City vehicles, light equipment, and maintaining a safe driving record. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Other Duties and Responsibilities Be on‑call with a response time of 30 minutes to City facilities. Serve as Acting Facilities Management Supervisor as needed. Remain accountable for all duties of the job; additional projects may be added at the City’s discretion. Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Electrician I Requirements High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as an apprentice in electrical system maintenance and repair. Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record. FBI background check (CJIS). Electrician II Requirements High school graduation or GED. Five years of progressively responsible electrical system repair and maintenance experience. State of Colorado (or reciprocal) Journeyman Electrician license. Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record. FBI background check (CJIS). Electrician III Requirements High school graduation or GED. State of Colorado (or reciprocal) Master Electrician license. Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record. FBI background check (CJIS). Preferred Qualifications Additional education such as college coursework or vocational trade school. Experience with commercial building maintenance up to 480 V three‑phase. Certification for confined space entry. Vocational trade school or military school coursework in electricity, mechanics, pipefitting, instrumentation, or related fields. CPR and first aid knowledge. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. Physical Requirements Occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking indoors and outdoors in all weather. Squatting, bending, kneeling, and crawling; climbing ladders up to 45 feet and balancing on roofs. Light grasp and fine manipulation for office tasks; frequent firm grasp for tools. Step up/down and actuate vehicles and equipment. Constant near‑acuity and hearing; occasional far‑acuity. Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs from ground to overhead; carrying 20–30 lbs; pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs. Working Conditions Work is performed indoors and outdoors across over 28 City facilities year‑round, often in extreme temperatures. On‑call and overtime duties are required. Tasks may involve noise, high voltage (up to 13,000 V) in moist areas, confined spaces, exposure to chemicals, and operating heavy equipment. Required Materials and Equipment 3/4 ton trucks and vans, 5 ton bucket trucks. Electrical test equipment, generators, hand and shop tools. Ladders up to 45 ft, cherry pickers or overhead cranes, scaffolds. Drills, hammers, saws, welders, cutting torches, metal shears. Genie lifts, two‑way radios, pagers. Personal computers, keyboards, telephones, fax machines. Pre‑Employment Requirements Background check, including employment references, criminal history, driving record. Pass CJIS background investigation; fingerprinted; felony convictions or unresolved warrants may disqualify. Drug screen. Physical examination.
