The Western Tidewater Health District is seeking a highly qualified Environmental Health Technical Specialist to join our team. The Western Tidewater Health District services the City of Suffolk, Isle of Wight County, Southampton County, and the City of Franklin. The District is part of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), which is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 33 local health districts. The Environmental Health Technical Specialist position serves as the environmental health technical leader, mentor & subject matter expert for the Food Safety, Tourist Establishment and General Environmental Programs. The candidate will perform complex environmental health functions, provide consultation and training to EH staff, assist in conducting training and may provide formal input into performance evaluations of EH staff. They will manage a typical caseload of approximately 35 food establishments in addition to DSO duties. They will collaborate and assist the district supervisors and manager with technical and enforcement issues.
