Senior Roofing Estimator

South Florida | Full-Time | On-Site

 

 

Position Summary

Apex Roofing (formerly known as Atlas Apex Roofing) is seeking an experienced and technically sharp Senior Roofing Estimator to lead bid development and pre-construction activities in the South Florida market. This is a senior-level role for a seasoned estimating professional who can independently manage complex commercial roofing bids from initial scope review through final proposal submission. The right candidate brings deep hands-on knowledge of all major roofing assembly types, a strong grasp of project costs and material markets, and the communication skills to represent Apex Roofing credibly with owners, general contractors, and consultants. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior estimating staff and helping shape how the estimating department operates and grows.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the full bid process for commercial roofing projects from scope review and site assessment through takeoff, pricing, and proposal submission

• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from architectural drawings, plans, and project specifications across all roofing assembly types

• Develop accurate, competitive, and well-documented cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scope

• Conduct pre-bid site visits to evaluate existing roof conditions, assess site logistics, identify scope risks, and inform estimate assumptions

• Analyze bid documents, contracts, and specifications to identify scope gaps, exclusions, and value engineering opportunities

• Prepare and present proposals to clients, general contractors, owners, and consultants in a clear and professional manner

• Build and maintain relationships with material suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive and current pricing

• Coordinate closely with Project Managers during project handoff to ensure estimates translate accurately into field execution plans

• Participate in post-project cost reviews, comparing estimated to actual costs to continuously improve estimating accuracy

• Mentor and provide day-to-day guidance to entry-level and mid-level estimating staff

• Stay current on material costs, market conditions, code requirements, and emerging roofing systems and technologies

• Manage multiple bids simultaneously, maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines across a high-volume pipeline

 

Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of commercial roofing estimating experience required

• Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of all major roofing assembly types including TPO, EPDM, modified bitumen, built-up roofing (BUR), metal roofing, and fluid-applied systems

• Proven track record of independently managing and winning competitive commercial bids

• Experience working directly with general contractors, building owners, architects, and roofing consultants

 

Skills

• Expert-level ability to read, interpret, and work from construction drawings, plans, and project specifications

• Strong command of construction math, quantity takeoffs, and cost analysis

• Proficiency in estimating software platforms; familiarity with RoofCAD, AutoCAD, or other Autodesk takeoff tools strongly preferred

• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word

• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

• Highly organized with the ability to manage a large bid pipeline under deadline pressure

• Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record

• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check

 

Education

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred

• Equivalent combination of field experience and demonstrated estimating competency will be considered

 

Nice to Have

Relevant industry certifications or additional qualifications that strengthen your candidacy.

 

• NRCA, RCI, or other industry certifications related to commercial roofing

• Experience with construction project management platforms (Procore, Buildertrend, or similar)

• Prior experience supervising or mentoring estimating staff

• Existing relationships with Florida-based general contractors, developers, or property managers

 

Working Conditions

• Full-time position, primarily office-based with regular field site visits for pre-bid assessments

• Must adhere to all safety regulations including OSHA and applicable state and federal requirements when on job sites
