The Dietary Cook at Westgate Villa, plays a role in preparing nutritious and appetizing meals tailored to meet the dietary needs of residents in our assisted living facility. This position ensures that all food preparation complies with sanitation standards and dietary therapy guidelines to promote the health and well-being of residents. The Dietary Cook collaborates closely with the dietary team and healthcare staff to accommodate special diets and preferences, ensuring quality and quantity in every meal served. Flexibility in scheduling and adaptability to changing dietary requirements are essential to maintain smooth kitchen operations. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the overall care experience by providing safe, wholesome, and enjoyable meals that support residents' health goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proven experience in quantity and quality cooking within a long-term care or similar healthcare facility.
• Knowledge of sanitation practices and food safety regulations.
• Ability to read, write, and understand instructions related to dietary therapy and food preparation.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work varied shifts as required by the facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Formal training or certification in dietary cooking or nutrition.
• Experience with diet therapy and specialized meal preparation for medical conditions.
• Familiarity with inventory and supply management in a healthcare setting.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to seek out new methods and principles to improve food service.
• Previous experience working in a long-term care facility.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook meals in accordance with established dietary guidelines and therapeutic diets specific to long-term care residents.
• Maintain strict sanitation and hygiene standards in all food preparation and kitchen areas to ensure resident safety.
• Collaborate with dietary staff and healthcare professionals to adjust menus and meal plans based on individual resident needs and preferences.
• Monitor food quality and quantity to ensure consistency and adherence to nutritional standards.
• Assist in inventory management, including ordering supplies and minimizing waste, while adhering to budgetary constraints.
• Follow written and verbal instructions accurately to meet daily operational requirements.
• Work cooperatively as part of a team to maintain a positive and efficient kitchen environment.
• Adapt to a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the facility and its residents.
