• Pay Rate: $55.00 / Hour (USD)
• Shift / Schedule: Night Shift, 3x12 Hours (18:45–7:15)
• Travel Requirements: Floating required as needed; potential to float every shift.

Job Summary

This is a travel contract nursing position in the Intermediate Care (IMC) unit, requiring specialized cardiac care expertise. The unit monitors cardiac patients and manages a high-acuity patient population including those with Congestive Heart Failure, Arrhythmias, and Post-Cardiac Cath diagnoses. Floating is required as needed, with the potential to float every shift. The unit accepts first-time travelers and local candidates.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and care for cardiac patients in the IMC/Stepdown unit
• Perform interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring
• Provide Pre/Post Cardiac Cath and Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery care
• Perform Sheath Removal (Sheaths Pulls, TR Bands, Femstop)
• Access ports and administer blood products
• Manage central lines and PICC lines
• Titrate cardiac drips including Diltiazem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Cardizem, Milrinone, and Dopamine
• Float to other units as needed, with potential to float every shift
• Adhere to weekend requirement of 5–6 weekend shifts (equates to every other weekend)
• Serve on Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team as assigned; may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
• Adapt to potential mid-contract consolidation to the Centralized Office with reassignment to units as needed
• Utilize unit systems including Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication
• Follow scheduling type: Self, per the unit needs
• Maintain patient ratios of 1:5–6

Required Skills

• Telemetry AND PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience
• Interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring
• Pre/Post Cardiac Cath experience
• Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery experience
• Sheath Removal experience
• Accessing ports
• Blood Product Administration
• Central line/care management
• PICC line management
• Cardiac drip titration: Diltiazem and Amiodarone

Preferred Skills

• Charge nurse experience

Education Requirements

• ACLS certification required
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start (required for this specialty)
• NIH certification preferred
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Unit will accept first-time travelers

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–7:15); 36 hours only can be offered
• Weekend requirement: 5–6 weekend shifts per contract period (approximately every other weekend)
• Floating required as needed; potential to float every shift
• Patient ratios: 1:5–6
• Unit orientation: 24 hours
• Scrubs: Not provided — Navy color required
• Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
• Mid-contract consolidation to the Centralized Office may occur; contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed
• COVID-19 vaccination: Not required

Important Notes

• RTO (Return to Origin) after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly result in a contract cancellation and DNR (Do Not Rehire).
• RTO maximum: 7 days for AYA Auto Offer.
• Must pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
• Nurse Manager (NM) must interview prior to finalizing the offer.
• Scheduling type is Self, per the unit needs.
