About the Job Fire Systems Technical Specialists (Radio) report to the Superintendent of Fire Alarm or Assistant Superintendent of Fire Alarm. The role involves designing, building, installing, inspecting, and repairing all division systems and equipment, including radio fire‑box transmitters and receivers, microwave, two‑way mobile radios, towers up to 230 feet, antennas, and other related equipment. Additional duties may be assigned by the superintendent, assistant superintendent, or Fire Department Chief. The position may require responding to emergency calls during a twenty‑four hour period. Salary Starting Salary: $104,520 annually Salary increases to $137,260 after four years. Qualifications & Requirements Applicants must be twenty‑one (21) years of age on or before the date of application. Possess a high school diploma or GED. Minimum two (2) years of work experience in radio‑related fields (electronics, communications, information technology). A two‑year associate degree in radio‑related fields may be substituted for one (1) year of job‑relevant experience. A four‑year bachelor’s degree in one or more of those fields may be substituted for two (2) years of job‑relevant experience. NICET Level 2 or 3 or Certified Electronic Technician (CET) course completion from ETA Int’l would be preferred. Civil Service Commission screening, including polygraph, job suitability assessment, background investigation, drug testing, etc., as required per Civil Service Commission Rule 5. Skill Preferences Digital P25 trunking radio systems, outdoor warning sirens, radio test equipment, and working on fire trucks and rigs. Installing, maintaining, and repairing fire apparatus equipment. Fabrication and CAD design. Installing, maintaining distributed antenna systems (DAS) for enhanced radio coverage in buildings. Essential Functions Design, build, install, inspect, and repair all division electronic systems and equipment (transmitters, receivers, two‑way mobile radios, towers up to 230 feet, antennas, equipment rack, and mount designs). Other duties may be required by the Superintendent of Fire Alarm, Assistant Superintendent of Fire Alarm, or Fire Department Chief. The NTN test is not required for this position.
