Scientist, Viral Vector Process Development
Asimov
Asimov seeks a process development scientist to engineer lentiviral and adeno-associated viral vectors for gene therapy manufacturing. The role involves bioreactor process optimization, analytical assay development, and collaboration with cell line and commercial teams at a synthetic biology startup in Boston.
Responsibilities
- Execute process development projects including media optimization, bioreactor development, scale-up studies, and analytical assay development for lentiviral and AAV vectors
- Coordinate with Commercial team to transfer upstream processes to external manufacturing partners
- Develop and optimize cell line characterization workflows, screening assays, and product quality assessment methods
- Collaborate with Cell Line Development teams on clone screening studies using bioreactor systems
- Author and review process development reports, protocols, and communicate progress across cross-functional projects
Requirements
- Bachelor's in biological engineering, chemical engineering, cell biology, or related field with 6-8 years viral vector process experience; or Master's with 3-4 years; or PhD with 0-2 years
- Hands-on mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique expertise, particularly HEK293-based viral vector development
- Demonstrated experience with Ambr15, Ambr250, and benchtop-scale bioreactor processes for viral vectors
- Proficiency with spreadsheet tools (Excel, Google Sheets) and data analysis software (Spotfire, Google Apps Script, BigQuery)
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE) software and electronic laboratory notebooks
- Analytical development and downstream purification experience preferred; cell line development or technology transfer experience desirable
