About the Paving Screed Operator Position This position is responsible for operating the screed from a standing position on a platform attached to the paver or walking alongside. Responsibilities Include Uses the screed to lay asphalt material to project specifications including but not limited to depth, width, and grade, when not operating the screed, performs laborer duties. Must be able to detect and correct defects in surfaces, seams and edges. Having a thorough understanding of various aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, mix designs, job specifications, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving. Education and Experience No formal education required. Requires at least two years of experience on a paving crew performing laborer duties. Requires two years of screed experience.
