Opportunity Overview

A respected community hospital in southeastern Vermont is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible General Surgeon (MD/DO) to join a collaborative surgical team.

This position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive surgical services across inpatient, outpatient, emergency department, and wound care settings within a supportive, community-focused environment.

This is a full-time employed opportunity ideal for a surgeon seeking strong clinical autonomy, collaboration, and long-term stability in a community-based practice.

Clinical Responsibilities

The General Surgeon will:

• Provide comprehensive surgical care in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings

• Perform common general surgical procedures including:

  • Hernia repair

  • Cholecystectomy

  • Endoscopy

  • Appendectomy

  • Small bowel obstruction management

  • Colorectal surgery

  • Skin and soft tissue procedures

• Manage acute and chronic wounds within a multidisciplinary Wound Clinic model

• Deliver expert diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of surgical conditions

• Review and interpret diagnostic test results

• Provide surgical input for palliative care, pain management, and end-of-life decision support

Team Collaboration

Work closely with:

• Anesthesiologists and CRNAs

• Physician Assistants

• Perioperative and peri-anesthesia teams

• Emergency Department clinicians

• Hospitalists

• Wound Clinic care team

Additional responsibilities include patient education, departmental meeting participation, and ongoing professional development.

Practice Setting

• Not-for-profit community hospital

• Approximately 61 licensed beds

• Serves a regional population across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts

• Collaborative multispecialty medical staff

• Strong community presence and mission-driven care

Requirements

Candidate Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery

• Completion of accredited General Surgery Residency (Required – no exemptions)

• MD or DO from accredited medical school

• Active Vermont Medical License (or willing to obtain)

• DEA (prior to start)

• CPR for Healthcare Providers

• Strong proficiency in surgical techniques and procedures

• Clean malpractice history

• NPDB Self-Query (dated within 30 days at presentation)

• Not open to locum or locum-to-perm candidates

• Not open to candidates commuting more than 1 hour

• Must be committed to full-time engagement (no dual-position arrangements)
