Job Overview Mercy seeks a Spiritual Care Leader to provide strategic and operational leadership in planning, developing, directing, and evaluating programs and methodologies that integrate spiritual care and spirituality into clinical caregiving and the broader work environment. The role partners with the Senior Vice President, Mission to advance the integration of Mercy’s mission and values throughout organizational structures and daily operations across the health system. The Senior Vice President, Mission reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Mission. Key responsibilities include leading Spiritual Care services, advancing mission priorities, holding Spiritual Care leaders accountable for alignment and excellence, and overseeing the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. Responsibilities Provide strategic direction, leadership, and accountability for Spiritual Care services. Collaborate closely with the Senior Vice President, Mission to advance mission integration across the organization. Ensure alignment, effectiveness, and excellence in service delivery among Spiritual Care leaders. Provide strategic and operational oversight of Mercy’s Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. Hold Spiritual Care leaders accountable for meeting strategic priorities. Qualifications Graduate-level degree in theology, divinity, or ministry with an emphasis in spirituality and/or organizational development (Catholic theology preferred). Board Certified chaplain preferred (preferred certification). Three to five years of healthcare spiritual care leadership experience, preferably hospital‑based and involving direct leadership of chaplains. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to communicate and apply Catholic theology, ecclesiology, ministry, liturgy, pertinent aspects of Canon Law, personal and organizational spirituality, clinical and organizational ethics, and Catholic Social Teaching.
