Registered Nurse (RN)We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Surgical Orthopedic Unit. This position offers an opportunity to work with a diverse patient population and engage in collaborative healthcare delivery.Position DetailsUnit Type: Medical Surgical (Med Surg)Shift Length: 12 hoursGuaranteed Hours: 36 hours per weekYears of Experience Required: 1 yearCertifications Required: BLS CertificationShift InformationShift: Night Shift (12 hr)Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend (Friday and Saturday are considered the weekend for nights)Unit NotesRN's will be required to pass a skills examination during orientation with a minimum score of 90% to remain in the position.All necessary resources will be provided to ensure successful completion of the exam.Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas, and refusal to comply may result in termination.A driver's license is required to ensure eligibility based on geographic radius considerations.Patient Care DetailsThe patient population in the unit primarily includes individuals with:Total knees, total hips, shoulder replacementsChronic conditions such as COPD, diabetes, and woundsIV infusions, dementia, oncology issuesFractures (hips, ankles), sepsis, pneumonia, cholelithiasis, and acute respiratory distressStaffing InformationPatient Ratios: Average of 1 RN to 5 patientsCaring support from nurse aids/patient care techs with a ratio of 1:10Monitor techs are available to assist with tele monitoring in the ICU; RNs do not need to read their own strips but have access to monitors at the main nurses' station.Orientation and TrainingThe first week includes classroom orientation, followed by one 12-hour shift of unit-specific training.This role expects candidates to be flexible, self-directed, and eager to learn in a dynamic environment.Additional InformationThe primary patient demographic is low to middle class, with some patients being homeless or having a history of mental health and/or addiction issues. A focus on hourly rounding and bedside shift report is integral to our care approach.
