Loadmaster

Loadmasters are responsible for the supervision of safe and proper loading procedures for the flights they are assigned. They report to the Manager of Loadmasters. They will follow and direct the proper loading procedures, paperwork compliance, security compliance and safety compliance as well as Aircraft Loading Procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure the cargo compartments of the aircraft is kept clean and free of debris, and promptly reports any missing, damaged and/or unserviceable components of the aircraft cargo loading and restraints systems or cargo equipment to appropriate company personnel. When any systems, restraints and/or components of the aircraft are involved, the Flight Crew must be notified immediately to ensure documentation in the aircraft logbook and notification processes are started as soon as possible.
• Ensure that all cargo intended for carriage on the aircraft is properly packaged, labeled, restrained, weighed, and documented per company and government regulations.
• Coordinate and supervise all cargo-related functions related to the flight, including inspection of ULDs, nets and pallets for airworthiness in accordance with established manufacturers' guidelines.
• Direct and supervise all labor groups that provide cargo and aircraft loading and unloading of freight to ensure maximum levels of safety, efficiency, and legality are maintained during all company cargo loading and unloading operations and to prevent injury to personnel and damage to the cargo, cargo equipment, and aircraft.
• Accomplish a complete check of the load prior to a departure. This includes checking all restrained items for proper security. The Loadmaster will correct any loading deficiencies or paperwork to ensure the Flight Release/Weight and Balance Form reflects the actual load on the aircraft before providing the form to the captain.
• Prepare, supervise, and maintain the operation of cargo weight and balance documents related to the operation of the flight.
• Act as liaison in the field between company and its customers, vendors, handlers and government agencies to ensure the highest levels of safety, efficient cargo operations schedule integrity and compliance with company policies and procedures and government regulations.
• Assist maintenance personnel when requested in the assembling or dismantling of specialty equipment and with any other ground support equipment when required.
• Must account for the planned load, giving consideration to all aircraft restrictions, limitations and load sequencing required to safely transport the load ensuring that all parameters are not exceeded.
• Ensure all restraint hardware is properly positioned as required by the Company Weight and Balance Manual.
• Maintain familiarity with the policies and procedures contained in the customer manuals. Loadmasters must also understand and observe the policies set forth by applicable sections of the Company General Operations Manual (GOM) and Company Weight & Balance Manual.
• Ensure the proper load verification procedures are followed as outlined in the customer Weight and Balance Manual and Company GOM.
• The Loadmaster will verify Hazardous Material (HAZ-MAT) loaded on the aircraft and verify all requirements have been met.
• Ensuring that all international paperwork and documents are on board prior to departure of then aircraft.
• Inspect all cargo compartments following each upload and offload. The Loadmaster will assist crew members and flight mechanics in keeping the cabin clean and secure at all times.
• Perform Ground Security Coordinator functions as outlined in Ground Security Coordinator (GSC) Training and Aircraft/Airport Facility Security in the customer manual and immediately notifying Director of Safety and Security of any discrepancies.
• Sending and responding to e-mails concerning Cargo Operations, for example, daily Loadmaster's Turnover Report, quoting oversize acceptance and interdepartmental inquiries. They will maintain all required files and documents in regard to the flight activity.
• Loadmasters assigned to Ground positions will prepare, communicate, verify and coordinate weight and balance load plans with stations assigned to them during their shift. Communication with station representatives assigned to verify correct loading is essential.
• Loadmasters are required to remain qualified by completing all required recurrent training as scheduled.
• Loadmasters will be responsible for all assigned shifts and/or flight assignments once assigned; if a Loadmaster volunteers to cover a shift, flight, or any other assignment it will become their responsibility once approved by Leadership.
• The Loadmaster may from time-to-time delegate the functions for any or all duties associated with his position. The delegation of any authority does not relieve the Loadmaster or overall responsibility for any task so delegated. The Loadmaster is responsible for all duties they have delegated and must verify compliance and completion of all duties delegated. The person accepting the delegation is responsible for accomplishing the task with the same standard and diligence as the Loadmaster.

• Carry out work in accordance with information and training provided and any specific health, wellbeing, safety, and security rules or procedures.
• Fully understand AGI Health & Safety and Security policies.
• Attend training courses as may be required by AGI.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to walk and stand on a frequent basis and for extended periods.
• Must be able to be alerted to moving vehicles or aircraft and use radio equipment to communicate with crew and airport authorities.
• Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions around jet and machinery noises.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Professional presentation: Must have a well-groomed appearance and customer service-oriented attitude.
• Good communication skills: Loadmasters must be able to communicate information and instructions verbally and/or via radio equipment effectively in a professional manner with the flight crew, gate agents, and other ground crew.
• Basic math skills: Loadmasters must be able to perform weight and balance calculations.
• Problem-solving skills: Loadmasters may be called upon to troubleshoot security issues.
• Time management skills: Loadmasters must be able to manage their time effectively to complete tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Curiosity and enthusiasm: Must be willing to receive cross training on all contracted posts which will assist department and clients during any emergency incident.

Qualifications:

• Be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma, GED, or work experience equivalent.
• Possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• If work location is in the United States, must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986. If work location is in Canada, must have authorization to work in Canada as defined by the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) of 2001.
• Must complete ramp and SIDA training to obtain airport authority identification security.
• If required by customer or role access, be able to secure a Customs Seal through the respective governing agency.
• Must have a minimum of combined two years of ramp and/or warehouse experience, including two years of experience in hazardous materials and documentation.
