Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Master of Towing Vessels to operate and lead tug operations in San Francisco Bay and surrounding waters. The ideal candidate is a confident mariner with strong local knowledge, excellent crew leadership skills, and a commitment to regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the operator-in-charge of towing vessels, conducting marine construction support, ship stores deliveries, and offshore towing
- Lead and manage onboard crew operations, including training, safety drills, and work assignments
- Conduct routine inspections of vessel systems and coordinate maintenance needs with shoreside personnel
- Ensure compliance with all USCG, company, and environmental regulations
- Complete required logs, reports, and documentation accurately and timely
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, port captains, and clients
Qualifications:
- Valid USCG Master of Towing Vessels license (Near Coastal or Oceans preferred)
- Proven proficiency in barge handling, ship assist, and wire towing
- Strong working knowledge of San Francisco Bay and/or West Coast towing operations
- TWIC card and current USCG Medical Certificate
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and emergency call-outs
