Associate Specialist Position in Hematology-Oncology - Hoffstrom TORL Lab 2026-2027

The Hoffstrom laboratory in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, Department of Medicine at UCLA is recruiting for an Associate Specialist to work at the Translational Oncology Research Laboratory site in Santa Monica. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision and leadership of UCLA faculty and research staff. Daily responsibilities include designing and troubleshooting established and novel methods focused on antibody engineering and in-vitro testing of antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). Some of this work may entail developing and testing small molecule-protein conjugation methods. The characterization of antibody-target binding will primarily be done using flow cytometry (FACS) and Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). Additional tasks may focus around antibody-based immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining of human tissue biopsies and digital archival of IHC data. Experience with the above methods and instrumentation is desirable along with some working experience with SQL database management and network engineering. The incumbent will also contribute to laboratory management tasks, including ordering laboratory consumables and training students or staff. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities, and do not have formal teaching responsibilities. Appointees will also be expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Candidates should possess an M.A./M.S. degree (or equivalent degree) in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science or a related discipline. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to multitask is essential, along with the capacity to work effectively in a team environment and independently. The candidate must also be able to plan for and execute weekly and monthly project deadlines. Preferred qualifications for this position include demonstrated expertise in chemistry and flow cytometry, as well as the ability to interpret surface plasmon resonance data.
