Job Title: Excavator Operator (Large and Mini Equipment) Job Description

This role operates large and mini excavators to dig trenches for underground utilities on a large data center construction site in Monrovia, IN. You will safely install and remove trench boxes, assist with pile driving posts for perimeter fencing, and support other heavy equipment operations as needed. The position requires flexibility to perform general laborer duties on days when equipment operation is not required, contributing to an all-hands-on-deck field team.

• Operate large excavators and mini excavators to dig trenches for underground utilities in a safe and efficient manner.
• Safely install and remove trench boxes to protect trench work and maintain compliance with safety standards.
• Assist with pile driving posts for perimeter fencing and other site structures as directed.
• Operate additional heavy equipment such as loaders, rollers, and skid steers when needed to support site activities.
• Perform general laborer duties on days when equipment operation is not required, including tasks necessary to support daily field operations.
• Follow all site-specific safety protocols and OSHA standards, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safe operating procedures.
• Maintain constant communication and situational awareness to safely navigate a busy civil construction site with multiple concurrent activities.
• Demonstrate professional appearance and behavior in alignment with the site code of conduct, including respectful communication and teamwork.
• Adapt to changing work assignments, tasks, and shifts as project needs evolve, including potential transition between first and second shift.
• Support the completion of project tasks during extended workweeks, including 10-hour days Monday through Friday and 8-hour shifts on Saturdays when weather permits.

• Proven experience operating large excavators and mini excavators for trenching and underground utility installation.
• Hands-on experience working on civil construction sites, preferably involving underground utilities and trenching work.
• Ability to operate additional heavy equipment such as skid steers, loaders, and rollers as needed.
• Valid driver’s license.
• OSHA 10 certification (minimum).
• Previous experience traveling for work, with the ability to function effectively as a traveler on remote or out-of-town projects.
• Willingness to work variable shifts, including the possibility of first and second shift assignments.
• Ability to commit to a schedule of approximately 58+ hours per week, including 10-hour days Monday through Friday and 8-hour shifts on Saturdays, as weather allows.
• Strong communication skills and situational awareness to work safely in a high-activity construction environment.
• Commitment to follow all safety protocols and site rules, including zero tolerance for distracted equipment operation.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor conditions across all seasons.

• Experience assisting with pile driving operations for perimeter fencing or similar structures.
• Background in large-scale construction projects such as data centers or other major civil infrastructure.
• Comfort working in a highly collaborative, all-hands-on-deck field environment where duties may vary day to day.
• Steel toe boots and appropriate personal protective equipment suitable for a civil construction site.
• Professional demeanor and reliability, including adherence to a site code of conduct that emphasizes respect, safety, and accountability.

The work takes place on a large civil construction site located on open farmland in Monrovia, IN. The environment is fully outdoors and subject to all seasonal weather conditions typical of Indiana, including hot, humid summers with potential pop-up thunderstorms and winters with cold rain, freezing rain, snow, wind, and extreme cold temperatures. The site operates under strict safety protocols aligned with OSHA standards, and there is a high level of activity with multiple crews and heavy equipment working simultaneously. Clear communication and constant awareness of surroundings are critical, and distracted operating is not tolerated. The schedule typically consists of 10-hour days Monday through Friday and 8-hour days on Saturday, totaling approximately 58+ hours per week when weather permits. Professional appearance and behavior are expected at all times in accordance with the site code of conduct, and steel toe boots and appropriate personal protective equipment are required as part of the daily dress code.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mooresville, IN.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
