Job Description & Requirements Specialty: Behavioral Health Discipline: RN Start Date: 09/21/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 48 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, nights Employment Type: Travel Travel RN – Behavioral Health / Psychiatry | Kansas City, MO Facility: Research Psychiatric Center Location: Kansas City, Missouri Address: 2323 E. 63rd Street Schedule: 12-hour shifts Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours guaranteed is available as an option Required to Submit Active Blue Card CPI — required at submission BLS CPI Units Travelers may work across multiple behavioral health units based on facility need: ADOL: 18 beds | Ages 12–18 Serenity: 24 beds | Lower-acuity adult behavioral health ITU: 32 beds | Higher-acuity adults, including thought disorders SRAD: 16 beds | Senior lifestyle / geriatric behavioral health population VINE: 9 beds | Lower-acuity adult behavioral health Ratios RN: approximately 1:8 Mental Health Tech: approximately 1:12 EMR Meditech Scheduling Facility requires coverage for 3x12-hour shifts daily, seven days per week Weekend availability is required based on scheduling needs Days off are not guaranteed unless written into the contract No on-call requirement Floating Travelers may float between behavioral health units based on the greatest staffing need. Required Psych Experience / Skills Candidates should be comfortable with: Psychiatric and behavioral health assessment Identifying psychiatric disorders, substance-use concerns, and behavioral changes Developing individualized behavioral health care plans Administration and monitoring of psychotropic medications Recognizing medication side effects and adverse reactions Crisis intervention Suicidal ideation and safety management Aggressive or escalating patient behaviors De-escalation techniques Therapeutic communication and rapport building Monitoring mental status, psychological symptoms, vital signs, and medication response Patient Experience Expectations Facility follows HCA patient-experience standards, including ICARE values and AIDET communication practices.
