Construction Project Manager

Contract duration: 36 month contract with potential to extend or convert Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Project Manager II to manage a portfolio of multidisciplinary projects from initial planning through final closeout. Projects typically involve mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines and range from approximately $500K–$2M in value. This role has single-point accountability for assigned projects and requires hands‑on involvement throughout the entire project lifecycle—not just planning and execution. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment, coordinating technical teams and contractors, managing budgets and schedules, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to established scope and quality standards. A technical background in engineering, mechanical systems, maintenance operations, or a related field is strongly preferred. Candidates should also be willing to learn the organization's project management processes and receive additional training as needed. Key Responsibilities Manage multiple multidisciplinary projects simultaneously, typically maintaining a portfolio of approximately 7–12 projects, depending on project complexity and size. Provide end‑to‑end project management from initial planning and scope development through execution, commissioning, turnover, and closeout. Serve as the primary point of accountability for assigned projects, providing leadership, decision‑making, coordination, and project controls. Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, forecasts, quality requirements, safety plans, and closeout activities. Coordinate internal and external teams, including engineering, project controls, estimating, construction, procurement/supply chain, operations, environmental health and safety, quality, vendors, and contractors. Lead project kickoff meetings, status meetings, project reviews, and other stakeholder meetings. Monitor project progress and communicate status, risks, issues, costs, schedules, and milestones to leadership and key stakeholders. Develop project estimates and schedules and monitor performance against approved plans. Manage procurement and contracting activities, including preparing work orders (WOs) and purchase orders (POs). Develop and implement procurement, equipment selection, vendor selection, and contracting strategies. Coordinate project execution to ensure work remains within approved scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to address potential impacts to cost, schedule, safety, quality, and operations. Coordinate startup, commissioning, turnover to operations, and warranty activities. Ensure projects are executed with a strong focus on safety, operational quality, and successful completion. Maintain clear communication among project teams, stakeholders, management, vendors, and contractors. Travel to project sites as required and maintain a regular presence at assigned offices and facilities. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Experience managing projects through the full project lifecycle, including planning, execution, commissioning, turnover, and closeout. Experience managing multidisciplinary projects involving areas such as mechanical, electrical, controls, engineering, maintenance, or construction. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently while balancing competing priorities. Experience managing project scope, schedule, cost, quality, safety, procurement, and risk. Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work effectively with technical teams, contractors, vendors, and cross‑functional stakeholders. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing project requirements. Willingness to learn new processes, systems, and project management methodologies. Experience developing or managing work orders, purchase orders, contracts, or procurement activities. Ability to travel to project sites using a personal vehicle; mileage will be reimbursed. Ability to work a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days per week at an office or project site. Preferred Qualifications PMP certification Professional Engineer (PE) license Technical experience in engineering, mechanical systems, maintenance operations, or industrial/project environments Experience managing projects in the $500K–$2M range Experience in industrial, utility, power generation, manufacturing, or other technically complex environments Do you now or in the future require sponsorship (e.g. H‑1B)?
