Pay: $62.50 an Hour
Location: Columbus, GA
Schedule: Full-time Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Job Type: Full-Time | In-Person
Primary Purpose of Position
The Ophthalmologist/Optometrist provides clinically competent delivery of quality vision services required
during operations for multiple Federal Contracts. This is an in-person position, and the role may include
working on Federal contracts such as VBA MDE, RHRP, MEPCOM, FBI, TSA, and others. The Ophthalmologist/Optometrist
is responsible for providing clinically competent vision care services within their scope of practice. The
Ophthalmologist/Optometrist working at any site is responsible for safe patient care and ensuring
adherence to all Policies and Procedures. This role specifically involves seeing Veterans, Service Members,
and Federal Personnel. All on-site staff and contractors must be fully vaccinated per CDC guidelines.
Role Responsibilities & Attributes
This role is patient-facing and can require working in a clinical setting. It is customer-facing with high expectations for
operational excellence. Hours may vary based on location, patient volume, and business needs. This list of essential
functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.

complete assignments in a timely manner, and utilize resources appropriately while complying with organizational
standards.
• Compliance: Maintain compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulatory, Contractual, and
organizational guidelines including HIPAA as outlined in training and policies/procedures, quality assurance, and
improvement processes. Abide by all policies and procedures to comply with all
infection control, quality assurance, and protocols.
• N95 Fit Testing: Provide proof of or be N95 Fit Tested depending on the scope of operations.
• Collaboration and Compliance: Partner with Clinical Quality Leadership and other healthcare professionals to ensure
compliance with all clinical policies and training programs, maintain and enhance quality assurance processes, adhere
to best practices and clinical guidelines, participate in performance improvement initiatives, engage in continuous
professional development.
• Patient Care and Support: Provide support and oversight to other clinical/nonclinical staff members. Direct
individual patient care activities and coordinate with other staff members as required.
• Patient Identification and HIPAA Compliance: Apply proper patient identification practices and ensure HIPAA
compliance.
• Order Review and Documentation: Read order requests including any remarks, questions, directions, or requests for
opinion; thoroughly review medical history including service records and previous exams. This includes refuting
previous medical opinions from previous examiners. Perform a thorough review of medical history which may include
service records, previous exams, and previous medical opinions.
• Exam Process Explanation: Provide a clear explanation of the examination process to the veteran, Applicant, Service
Member, or other applicable individual, and verify the claimed conditions and/or assessments scheduled for
evaluation.
• Accession Exams: Accurately obtain and record vital signs and body composition measurements, including
abdomen/waist, hip, and neck circumferences, as well as Body Mass Index (BMI), in accordance with USPHS
guidelines and instructions.
• NDA Completion: Sign, comply with, and maintain required Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs). Multiple NDAs
may be required to satisfy the specific confidentiality and compliance needs of individual contracts.
• Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQ) and Medical Opinions (MO): Complete appropriate DBQs and MOs
through the Electronic Medical Records System (EMR) during the exam and provide necessary documentation to the
VA with a full understanding of the Veteran's claimed contention(s).
• Compensation and Pension (C&P) Exams: Provide C&P exams and, in some cases, order and interpret diagnostic
tests.
• Timely Documentation: Complete chart and submit exam within 24-48 hours after the exam are completed.
• Inventory Management: Manage supply inventory and escalate gaps as quickly as possible. Ensures that visual
supplies, equipment and quality assurance procedures/reporting are maintained, and recorded per OSHS and
manufacture guidelines.
• Medication Handling (Onsite and/or Mobile Units): Ensure safe and proper handling, storage, and administration
of medications for examination purposes only. Adhere to manufacturer guidelines with minimal waste and maintain
accurate and timely documentation of all medication activities. When travel applies, practitioner is required to receive
and transport medications.
• Patient Education: Provide and ensure patient education is current and accurate.
• Emergency Protocols: Follow appropriate and applicable protocol if behavioral health or medical emergencies occur.
• Emergency Medical Care: Responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients' emergent care when needed.
Utilize assessment and critical thinking skills to ensure appropriate care can be delivered safely and within the scope
of available resources and supplies. Stabilize injured and critical people until Emergency Medical Services arrive.
Provide emergency medical care for simple and multiple system trauma, including controlling hemorrhage,
bandaging wounds, stabilizing injured extremities, etc. Administer medications and treatments via oral, parenteral,
and intravenous routes if available.
• Punctuality: Be punctual for work attendance and abide by the work schedule. Be present and remain on site during
scheduled hours.
• Language Skills: If fluent in other languages, assist patients and team members with translation as necessary and to
the limit allowed by qualifications/certification.
• Reporting: Work with site staff and operational teams to ensure reports are submitted timely and accurately. Assist in
the preparation and delivery of reports for all lines of business.
• Service Animals: Provide care for individuals with service animals, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Ensure that service animals are accommodated and that their presence is respected, providing necessary support and
assistance to both the individual and their service animal.
• Data Analysis: Analyze data from the VA medical records and medical literature related to assessments and
assessment outcomes.
• Time Management: Work independently with strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Technology Proficiency: Demonstrate computer and technology proficiency, to include EMR and MS Office Suite
software applications.
• Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with staff that are on-site and remote.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
• Education: Doctoral degree in Optometry or Ophthalmology (O.D.). Completed an Ophthalmology Residency
program.
• Active and unrestricted license in the state of practice.
• Active/Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
• Must be able to successfully pass National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.
• Valid U.S. Driver’s License and ability/willingness to drive between work locations.
• Three years of clinical experience.
• U.S. citizenship to comply with federal regulations and contract requirements
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with Veterans, Service Members, and Federal Entities.
• Active/Current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
