*Equivalency Application Form and Process

Why would I complete the Equivalency Form when I'm already completing an application and have a relevant degree?

  • The state of California has established minimum qualifications for academic positions in California Community Colleges to promote professionalism, instructional integrity, and academic rigor. Each discipline has specific, approved degree majors that are listed above. You must complete and attach an Equivalency Form with your application if your degree major does not match one of the disciplines listed above. This form allows Cabrillo College's Equivalency Committee to review your education and/or professional experience to determine whether it is equivalent in level, content, and rigor to the required degree. Applications cannot be considered without a completed Equivalency Form, even if your degree is closely related .

  • For example: If the MQs list a Master's in Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, and your degree is in Geosciences or Earth and Environmental Studies, you must request equivalency by submitting the form with your application.

  • To determine whether your current education, or exact discipline, and/or experience, is "equivalent," you must submit an Equivalency Form to initiate a review by the Equivalency Committee at Cabrillo College and so that your application can move forward and be considered by the search committee.

Please note the Equivalency Committee will consider only those applicants who formally request equivalency consideration by submitting the completed Equivalency Form with their application by the closing date stated in the job announcement.

  • Be sure to attach any additional supporting documents - such as unofficial transcripts, course descriptions, certificates, or verification of professional experience - if not already attached.

Still working to complete your degree?

  • Applicants currently completing their required degree(s) are welcome and encouraged to apply! However, applicants must also submit an Equivalency Form with all unofficial transcripts.
